One day, the Sultan decided to go hunting and wanted Pak Pandir to join him. I n front of the palace, where the hunting party was to set off, the palace stable boys gave Pak Pandir an old, tired horse. During the hunt it suddenly began to rain.
Everybody put their horses to the gallop and made a hasty retreat for the palace. But Pak Pandir could not. As the day was hot before it started raining, Pak Pandir had taken off his clothes and had placed them under him. And so, because he was only partially clothed, he decided to return slowly to the palace. When the rain subsided he put on his clothes once again. When he arrived at the palace, his clothes were dry and the Sultan was most astonished. "We all got wet," he said. "How is it that you are still dry?" "Your Majesty," Pak Pandir replied. "With the help of this horse, I managed t o arrive at the palace without getting wet." On another hunting trip the Sultan summoned for the horse which was given to Pak Pandir before. As fate would have it, it began to rain again and the Sultan became drenched. When he arrived back at the palace he angrily bellowed for Pak Pandir and asked how it was possible that he had gotten wet. "Oh Your Majesty," replied Pak Pandir, "Please forgive me but I forgot to tell you, that you also had to put your clothes under you so that they would not get wet”.
